The Rookie period was created by Mälekon as a project group to introduce the new economics students at Mälardalen University. Rookie is the name that the new students will get.
Places to be filled are generals, play leaders, etc. Generals are appointed in the spring and preparations are ongoing until the induction day, which is usually a few days before the start of the school. Please note: alcohol may be present!
The point of the rookie period is to help new students get into student life. You will get to know many new friends that you may know for life.
During the rookie period there will be lots of games, dancing and laughter and according to many students it is the most fun period they have had in their lives. So don’t be afraid to join in, as the whole point is to make you feel welcome!
The activities are entirely dependent on what this year’s project group thinks is appropriate! But in previous years we have had, among other things:
Generals: Usually three pieces and has major responsibility to organize the whole event.
Over Fadder: These people are the leaders and are responsible for finding out the right information from the generals and then passing it on to their group of Fathers. They will ensure that the planning is completed and will give the instructions to their group.
Fadders: these people should listen to the Over Advisors in their group and the Generals and be a helping hand during the rookie period. They should be actively involved in facilitating their group’s members.
The three roles should be aware that a lot of planning and meetings may occur. But absolutely first and foremost, it is important to make the new students feel welcome and have a fun time!
It can vary depending on the year but usually, it is one week before the start of the autumn semester and ends after a total of three weeks.
All you need to bring is a smile and we're off!

Yes, there is.
Then there are rules specific to the Generals and the Fathers: including:
Then there are more rules that the cadets and generals will have to learn during their cadet training.
Generals will be appointed early in the spring, during which time interviews will take place between last year's Generals, representatives from the Mälekon Board, and the applicants for the coming year's Generals. After the new Generals have been elected, planning will begin as soon as possible.
Generals will be required to attend a General Training session, usually held in a boarding house, for two days, with overnight accommodation.
During the spring and summer, the Generals will communicate with some companies that want to sponsor for the rookie period. Some examples: these sponsors can be clubs where sittings can be held or Mälekon's own sponsors like Ica, where Ica can provide food for the barbecue.
The events that can be held for the new students can start as early as a week before the semester starts and last for a total of 3 weeks, up to 6 times a week. It is recommended to give all students at least one day's rest to recover.
Because there are so many events that can be held, we usually divide the work into so-called Fathers. You can divide the tasks and ideas so that different groups are responsible for organizing activities. Ideas about the activities and how they should be held are entirely up to the Generals.
